When to dive in Jávea: the best time of year
August is when everyone comes, and it is not when the diving is best. Here is the whole year, with its trade-offs.

There are two ways to answer this. The short one: June to October, and September is the best month. The long one is more useful, because it depends on what you are optimising for — warm water, visibility, having the place to yourself, or paying less.
Summer (June to September)
Warm water, a thin wetsuit, long days and everything operating. It is the obvious season and it has two trade-offs: it is when the coast is busiest — with Granadella and El Portitxol under access control — and when you need to book furthest ahead. September concentrates the best of the season without the worst: the water is at its warmest point of the year and the queues are gone.
Autumn (October and November)
The sea holds its heat well after the air cools, so October is still a very good month and a lot of people do not realise it. The first serious storms start, which means more lost days but also cleaner water between them.
Winter (December to March)
By some distance the best visibility of the year, and the place to yourself. The price is the cold: a thick or semi-dry suit is needed and dives get shorter. This is not try-dive season or beginner season, it is diver season.
Spring (April and May)
The most unpredictable stretch. The water is still cold even when the air suggests otherwise, and it is when the first plankton blooms can drop visibility abruptly. In exchange, it is when the sea floor wakes up and there is more going on than it looks.
Above all of this: the wind on the specific day matters more than the month. A strong easterly leaves the water murky in the middle of August, and a calm week in January gives thirty-metre visibility. If your dates are flexible, spend that flexibility on the forecast rather than the calendar.
